Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (Chinese: 无尽对决; pinyin: wújìn duìjié)[3][Note 1] is a mobile multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) developed and published by Moonton. Released in 2016, the game has become popular in Southeast Asia and was among the games chosen for the first medal event esports competition at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.

In July 2018, Tencent (which also owned TiMi Studios which developed similar games, Arena of Valor) on behalf of Riot Games won a lawsuit in Shanghai against Moonton CEO Watson Xu Zhenhua for Mobile Legends’ plagiarism of League of Legends, and was awarded a settlement of $2.9 million.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game designed for mobile phones. The two opposing teams fight to reach and destroy the enemy’s base while defending their own base for control of a path, the three “lanes” known as “top”, “middle”, and “bottom”, which connects the bases.[4] Weaker computer-controlled characters, called “minions”, spawn at team bases and follow the three lanes to the opposite team’s base, fighting enemies and turrets.[5]

In each team, there are five players who each control a character, known as a “hero” using analog/joystick controls. Heroes can be grouped into 6 different roles, Marksman, Assassin, Mage, Support, Fighter, and Tank.

Additionally, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang have different kind of arcade games, featuring different gameplay mechanic respectively, such as:

Survival, a battle royale game mode
Chess-TD, a tower defense game mode
Magic Chess, an auto battler game mode

Mobile Legends initially had 10 heroes upon its release in 2016.[6] It later grew to 70 by November 2018,[6] and as of December 2020, 103 heroes are currently in the live server.

Moonton regularly collaborates with Southeast Asian countries to create new characters from their respective histories or folklore to further increase the game’s appeal,[7] introducing characters such as Lapu Lapu (Philippines),[8] Minsitthar (based on Kyansittha; Myanmar),[9][10] Kadita (based on Nyai Roro Kidul; Indonesia),[11] and Badang (Malaysia).

fter Moonton’s staff of 20 finished developing its first game called Magic
Rush: Heroes, released in 2015 to commercial success, they proceeded with developing the company’s next project, a mobile multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game later titled Mobile Legends.[13] The staff’s experience with engineering Magic Rush for a global market, such as in customizing its features for the differing cultures and state of telecommunications of various countries, became beneficial for them to more effectively design Mobile Legends as an appealing game for global players.[13] Mobile Legends was released by Moonton with the subtitle “5v5 MOBA” on 14 July 2016.[citation needed] The game is distributed by Elex Tech in the United States.[14]

According to a scan of published apps on Google Play by Check Point Research last June 2019, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang was affected by CVE-2015-8271 (FFmpeg RTMP video streaming), a vulnerability that also affected popular apps like Facebook, Messenger, and SHAREit
